Making Sure Your Boat or Personal Watercraft Arrives Safely
Shipping your boat can be stressful, but it doesn’t have to be!
If you are in the process of moving or have ever wanted to go on vacation with your boat or PWC vehicles there are some things you need to know. There are different shipping methods, preparation methods, and prices for shipping your boat, and other watercraft.
The key to making sure that your boat will get from one point to another without damage is proper prep. There is some basic preparation you can do to ensure that your boat will arrive safely without damage. You may not have of thought of these, so hopefully, these will help.
First make sure that if you have loose valuable items like fish finders, gps, fine china (‘cause who doesn’t, right?), and other items of value are either secured under lock and key or taken off the boat entirely. You don’t want to risk these valuable items getting damaged or causing damage while your boat is en route, so don’t risk it. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
Next will be to secure loose gear and equipment, make sure they are stored in an appropriate place, or removed it from the boat entirely. Things such as boat bumpers (Buoys), life preservers, life jackets, etc. These items have places to be stored, so make sure they are. If you have a cabin, we recommend using it for storage and locking it up tight. You don’t have to give the driver the key, and we don’t really recommend it.
If you have a cover for your boat or PWC, this should also be stored away. As tempting as it is to want to cover your boat when transporting, it’s not worth the risk. Tearing, ripping, and other damage can occur to the cover during the transport, so it’s best not to risk it.
From here you’ll have to worry about making sure your fuel tank is empty and that your battery has been disconnected. But why bother?
